Visas and citizenship

The Australian Embassy in Italy does not process visa or citizenship applications. Staff at the Embassy in Italy are unable to assist with visa enquiries.

Visas and citizenship applications are managed by the Department of Home Affairs.

You may be eligible for an eVisitor visa or an Australian Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). For information applying for Australian visas, please visit explore visa options.

Please note that Australian citizens are expected to travel to Australia using an Australian passport.

International calls may be subject to charges imposed by your local carrier. You may wish to consider using a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider to avoid potentially high charges.

Latest news​

  • From Monday 09 December 2024, VFS Global will collect biometrics on behalf of the Australian Government in Albania. The new Australian Biometric Collection Centre will be located at Tirana, Kashar, highway Tirana - Durres km 5, Dabar Center, 4th floor, and will operate 09:00am to 04:00pm, Monday to Friday.  
  • From Monday 25 November 2024, visa applicants who have been requested to provide their biometrics can book an appointment for biometrics collection via the VFS Global website. The website also provides information on fees and payment options.
  • VFS Global provides a contact centre should clients require assistance to access services delivered by VFS Global (including making an appointment). The website has details on how you can contact them.  
  • The current Australian Biometric Collection Centre delivered by TLSContact will continue to provide services to Australian visa applicants until close of business Friday 29 November 2024. You can book an appointment for biometrics collection via the TLSContact website.
